Bael Fruit Tea
This beverage is served over ice in Thailand and known as ‘Cha Matoom’. This exotic fruit as well as the tea provides many reported health-improving properties and it is easy to brew. This recipe makes a concentrated Beal Tea beverage that should be diluted to flavour before drinking it. We at Ancient Purity suggest two parts water to one part of the Beal concentrate.
Bael Fruit is not as mysterious as you might think. If you are one of the many people who have never heard of it, this recipe will provide you with a sweet and fragrant opportunity to learn about it as well as enjoy the tea’s numerous health benefits. Beal Fruit’s history is ancient, having been used long before the advent of Hinduism, and it carries religious significance. The Bael Fruit trees grow abundantly throughout the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
Toast the Bael: Place the dried Bael Slices (about 100 grams) in a pan and heat them to gently toast and release its flavour and aroma. This will take just a minute or two but makes a more rounded and tastier tea.
Brewing Organic Bael Fruit Tea: Heat filtered water (about 9 cups) until boiling and add in the toasted Bael or Quince Slices. Reduce the heat and simmer for 25 minutes. The longer you let it simmer, the stronger the flavour. The water will gradually colour as the Bael Fruit releases its flavour.
Sweetening and Storing: When the Bael Fruit Slices have finished simmering to brew, you can remove the Bael pieces with a slotted spoon and add some Raw Organic Forest Honey. Stir the honey thoroughly to dissolve and allow the tea to cool a little before straining through a cloth or metal strainer to remove any remaining small particles and leave the tea clear. Pour into a jug with a cover for storage in the refrigerator. The Bael Tea will stay good for several days in the refrigerator. You can serve the tea by simply pouring it over ice and dilute to preferred taste. We like to dilute about two parts water to one part of the Organic Bael Tea concentrate made.
