Grape Seed Extract
Grape Seed Extract contains a high content of OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins), these are potent antioxidants which may help prevent or slow the development of macular degeneration, a condition involving loss of the central field of vision according to medicinal chemistry lecture notes from the University of Washington. Dr Theresa Graedon, co-author of "The People's Pharmacy Guide to Home and Herbal Remedies," recommends grape seed extract for slowing macular degeneration as well as reducing visual stress caused by computer screens. Cataracts might be preventable in part by grape seed extract use according to a tissue culture study published in the January 2011 "Molecular Vision." In the study, grape seed extract reduced oxidative damage to human lens cells exposed to hydrogen peroxide. Researchers concluded that grape seed extract may be useful for preventing or reversing oxidative damage that can lead to cataract formation. An animal study published in the June 2006 issue of "Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery" found that doses of 100mg per kg of body weight of grape seed’s proanthocyanidins effectively prevented cataract formation.
Grape Seed Extract also supports healthy skin, providing cardiovascular support, and it can help to improve blood circulation. It protects the central nervous system from reactive oxygen species, and it helps to maintain healthy platelet function and other aspects of platelet responses. Proanthocyanidins have good free-radical scavenger ability, evidenced by their ability to improve antioxidant status in lab animals. They also strengthen capillaries, arteries, and veins, improve circulation, protect against premature cell death in diabetic retinopathy, reduce capillary fragility, and reduce nerve damage in the eye. Grape Seed's flavonoids reduce inflammation and influence platelet release. Grape Seed Extract is also a source of Resveratrol which targets multiple age-related issues such as mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and oxidative stress.
A Natural Way to Support your Eye Health
Let's Look at Lutein
Lutein is found in green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, carrots, squash, and other orange and yellow fruits and vegetables. Lutein (from the Latin word "luteus," meaning "yellow") is a naturally-occurring carotenoid. Lutein is used by your body as an antioxidant, and by your eyes for blue light absorption. Lutein is a powerful antioxidant, able to fight free radicals and protect cells from oxidative damage. Both Lutein and Zeaxanthin are found in high concentrations in the macula lutea (The part of the retina that is responsible for sharp, detailed central vision, also called visual acuity) and believed to serve two primary roles: to absorb excess photon energy, and to quench free-radicals before they damage the lipid membranes.
The highest concentration of Lutein in your eye is in your macula which is the tiny central part of your retina responsible for straight-ahead and detailed vision. More specifically, lutein is found in the macular pigment that is known for helping to protect your central vision. It is also worth mentioning that Lutein helps support your cardiovascular system and your skin as well, so you may notice additional benefits to taking our Eye Health complex. Lutein may even be more powerful than vitamin E for supporting eye health, suggested by scientific research. In a double-blind study on carotenoids, 17 patients taking 15mg of Lutein 3 times a week for 2 years were compared to patients taking 100mg of Vitamin E or a placebo. The Lutein group had statistically significant improvements in visual acuity and glare sensitivity, compared to the Vitamin E and control groups.

Bilberry Extract - Eye Health Superfruit
Bilberries (Vaccinium Myrtillus) are a natural source of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are polyphenolic components that give Bilberry its blue/black colour and super-high antioxidant content. These powerful anthocyanins are believed to be the key bioactives responsible for the numerous health benefits of bilberry and similar berry fruits. Bilberry is most famous for its ability to improve vision, but it has been reported to lower blood glucose, have anti-inflammatory and lipid-lowering effects, promote antioxidant defense and lower oxidative stress. Bilberry contains numerous phenolic compounds, including the flavonols, quercetin and catechins, tannins, ellagitannins and phenolic acids; however, the anthocyanins found in the bilberry are, by far, the largest contribution to its phytonutrient density.
Bilberry's are nutritional food for eye health. Due to the anthocyanosides, bilberry is widely used to improve night vision or vision handicaps in low light, decreasing vascular permeability and capillary fragility. It was reported that during World War II, British fighter pilots had improved nighttime vision after eating bilberry jam. Bilberry has been suggested as a treatment for retinopathy, which is damage to the retina. Bilberry has also exhibited protective effects against and macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts.

Zeaxanthin the Retina’s Potent Antioxidant Carotenoid
In the typical western diet most people only get 0.2-2mg of Zeaxanthin daily, depending on the amount and mix of vegetables and fruits in their diet. Studies show that your eyes need more Zeaxanthin on a daily basis. Unfortunately, Zeaxanthin can’t be made by your body, so it must be supplemented as part of your diet. Once transported to your eye, Zeaxanthin relocates into several tissues, including your lens and your macula, to support their daily tasks. Lutein and Zeaxanthin both readily pass into your eyes. Once in the oxygen-rich environment of your retina, they reduce the numbers of those nasty free radicals. So it makes perfect sense that studies show a higher dietary intake of Lutein and Zeaxanthin is related to greater visual health. Though there’s no recommended daily intake for Lutein and Zeaxanthin, recent studies show a health benefit for lutein supplementation at 10 mg daily and for Zeaxanthin supplementation at 2mg daily. Studies show that dietary intake of approximately 6-20 mg Lutein daily appears to be necessary for adequate eye health support.
“There is nothing invisible in this universe! There is only our lack of eyesight!” - Mehmet Murat ildan
There's one small problem with eating for Zeaxanthin and Lutein. It simply isn't as simple as eating leafy greens and a few other foods. Studies show that your body may struggle to break down the plant cell walls housing these nutrients. Cooking your leafy green Lutein and Zeaxanthin rich foods on low heat can actually increase their bioavailability by breaking the cell walls and the carotenoid-protein complexes. Studies also suggest that you absorb lutein much better from a purified Lutein supplement, which may contain nearly twice the levels you get from spinach or other vegetable sources. Ancient Purity will always keep encouraging their customers consuming a whole food organic balanced and varied diet, rich in superfoods and pure water. We also can often see times when a supplement may be the first choice in a specific area of health, boost yourself back up and then support your health with a good diet. If you currently experience that your eyes are in less than perfect health it may be a wise decision to supplement for a while.
Vision-Boosting Vitamin E
Vitamin E antioxidants help protect eye cells from damage by free radicals (harmful, unstable molecules which break down healthy eye tissue). A 7-year study which documented 3,640 people with AMD showed that taking 400 IU of vitamin E and several other nutrients in a daily supplement reduced the risk of progressing to advanced stages by 25%. Some studies suggest that Vitamin E rich diets or supplementation with the correct Vitamin E may help prevent age-related cataracts. Scientific research revealed that cataract formation might be delayed by vitamin E as well. The, in 2002 conducted, Roche European American Cataract Trial, discovered that a dietary supplement containing beta-carotene, vitamins C and E (All present in Ancient Purity’s Eye Health Complex) leads to a decrease in cataract’s progression in less than 3 years.
Another research indicates that Vitamin E may be the most helpful for helping to prevent age-related macular degeneration (AMD), particularly among those who’re already showing early symptoms of this illness. In the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) involving almost 5,000 participants, persons with early AMD had a 25% reduced risk of developing advanced signs of the sickness when consuming a daily supplement with Vitamin E in it. It might also be interesting to realise that another research revealed that the average US diet doesn’t include sufficient quantities of Vitamin E. In one set of data, over 96% of women in the US and 89% of American males aged 19 and older did not get enough alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E’s important form) in their diets. Some food options for getting this Vitamin include: leafy greens, nuts, papaya, kiwi, red bell peppers, broccoli, kale, wheat germ and olive oil. Talking about olive oil, Ancient Purity offers one of the Highest Quality Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil available!

Zinc for the Foundation of Eye Support
Among the tissues in the human body, the eyes contain the highest concentrations of Zinc. Your eyes need the minerals Zinc and Selenium. Zinc helps your body absorb Vitamin A and also helps many antioxidant enzymes in your body reduce the number of free radicals. It plays an important role in eye health. Zinc aids vitamin A creating a pigment called melanin that protects your eyes. Zinc deficiency leads to reduced quality of night vision. There is scientific evidence that Zinc food supplements, when used combined with antioxidant vitamins reduces the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), an age-related change in eyesight. You’re what you eat, and your eyesight is no exception. Some foods containing decent Zinc amounts include: seafood, oysters, eggs, tofu, wheat germ, and black-eyed peas. Obviously, when you take 1 daily capsule of our Full Spectrum Eye Health Complex, you make sure getting adequate amounts of Zinc.
A team of scientists, including 3 researchers at George Mason University, found that the mineral Zinc could play a role in the development of macular degeneration. This finding, published in the journal Experimental Eye Research, might be especially pivotal because zinc supplements are widely given to patients to aid enhance weak immune systems. Additionally, a 2001 research from the National Eye Institute found that high doses of zinc supplements, in combination with antioxidants, might postpone blindness’ progression.
“Because earlier findings have shown that that zinc contributes to deposit formation in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, we were prompted to test the theory that Zinc might be involved in deposit formation in AMD.” - Jane Flinn,

Eye Health Complex… Closing Thoughts
You have most-likely heard someone say, “Eat your carrots, they’re good for your eyes.” The leading cause of vision reduction in the US is AMD. This eye health issue affects over 10 million people. It is mostly associated with ageing, but some types of macular degeneration affect young persons as well. AMD happens when there is degeneration of the light-sensitive cells present in the retina’s macula area. This is the eye’s part responsible for: focusing, seeing fine details, and recording what we see and sending this information to the brains. A cataract is the eye lens’ clouding. This condition might reduce your ability to see well enough performing daily tasks and usually becomes worse over time. Cataracts are incredibly common, especially among older persons. Approximately 24.4 million people in the USA were diagnosed with cataracts in 2010.
Taking Eye Health Supplements reduce the risk of getting these vision issues. Scientific research has proven that supplements containing Zinc, Vitamin E, Zeaxanthin, Vitamin C, Lutein, and Mesozeaxanthin can help preventing AMD, Glaucoma and Cataracts. Ancient Purity’s Full Spectrum Eye Health Complex has all these important components in it. Now you can delay the use of reading glasses for many years! In addition, it isn’t solely beneficial for the eyes but it also supports cardiovascular health, boosts mitochondrial function, enhanced cognitive function, combats inflammation, and fights oxidative stress. “I've always thought the law ought to put on spectacles, it has mighty poor eyesight once in a while.” - Margaret Deland
