Ancient Purity present one of our early day classics, a Vitamin C Superfood. This is the extract of Camu Camu, a natural food source of Vitamin C. It tastes great and is the perfect ingredient for an amazing fruit smoothie. The human body does not make Vitamin C, many other animals manufacture their own Vitamin C, but humans must rely on dietary sources. Vitamin C is delivered through superfruits like the Camu Camu Berry in combination with several different supporting phytochemicals which makes the positive effect of Vitamin C even more powerful. I fully agree, it isn’t cheap but Camu Camu Extract Vitamin C is perhaps the purest way to enjoy healthy Vitamin C supplementation.

Various research that has been conducted on Camu Camu shows that it is antiviral -- it helps kill viruses that could threaten your immune system and is a powerful protective agent against colds and the flu. It fights swelling and tenderness of one or more of your joints, so it can help reduce inflammation, which tends to ease the pain of this health condition. Additionally, Camu Camu Extract combats the health condition that leads to thickening or hardening of the arteries caused by a build-up of plaque in the inner lining of an artery.

Camu Camu... The Extract of the Peruvian Super Fruit

Anti-Inflammatory... Camu Camu fruit pulp contains ellagic acid, an antioxidant that has been shown to inhibit the inflammation-triggering enzyme aldose reductase. A study in men who smoked found that drinking 0.3 cups (70 ml) of Camu Camu juice containing 1,050 mg of vitamin C for a week significantly decreased the inflammatory markers interleukin (IL-6) and high sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP). The same effects were not seen in a control group that took a tablet with the same amount of vitamin C. This suggests that there may be a combination of beneficial components in camu camu that help your body fight inflammation. The seeds of the camu camu fruit contain powerful anti-inflammatory compounds as well, and a mouse study found that extract from the seeds suppressed inflammation. Though these results are promising, more research is needed to better understand the potential anti-inflammatory benefits of camu camu.

Brain and Neuron support... Camu Camu has been shown to protect the brain. In fact, if you're interested in anti-ageing, or if you're advancing in years and you want to make sure you have optimal brain function for the rest of your life, the Camu berry is one of the most important nutritional supplements you can consume. It is shown to be a protective food for cataracts. It doesn't mean that Camu Berry is an all-powerful, magical cure for every patient suffering from cataracts, but this is a superfruit that certainly should be investigated by anyone who is suffering from the condition.

Delicious, Clean, Effective... All the things Ancient Purity stands for

Camu Camu Gives

Eye Health... Camu also may protect the eyes. There is also evidence of the camu berry having an anti-inflammatory effect. Inflammation not only affects arthritis but, it also affects heart health. In fact, inflammation and the C-reactive proteins are a hot topic now in medical literature. People are more aware of how inflammation is a systemic problem, meaning it affects the entire body. Vitamin C is an excellent anti-inflammatory supplement, and when you get high-density, full-spectrum Vitamin C from camu berries, you get one of the best anti-inflammatory medicines from the natural world. Known also as an antidepressant. Depression is often the result of a suppressed or poorly functioning nervous system. Of course, depression can have many causes, but the most common is actually a malnourished nervous system. The camu berry is one of the natural strategies you can use to reverse depression, even serious depression. Camu berry is also documented as being anti-gingivitic, which means it helps fight gingivitis, the gum disease that can affect dental health. Described as anti-hepatitic, meaning it could protect against liver disorders. This is not a surprising effect, given that antioxidants are protective of the liver in general. Being a potent antioxidant, it can help support the liver's efforts in detoxifying many of the chemicals to which you are exposed. It has even shown a positive effect on migraine headaches. Many consumers in the Western world suffer from migraines. Migraines are caused by toxic food and a toxic environment, pure and simple. When you protect your nervous system against toxic chemicals found in foods and in the environment, then your incidence of migraines reduces rapidly. Camu camu is a neuro-protective superfruit, so it can help greatly reduce the incidence of migraines. Camu Camu is also shown as being anti-ulcerous, anti-herpes, and hypotensive. If you're suffering from hypertension or high blood pressure, taking the camu berry can help naturally lower your blood pressure. The most likely mechanism for this is that vitamin C combined with the mineral content of the camu berry helps relax the blood vessels throughout your body. This allows your blood vessels to be more flexible and to simultaneously reduce your overall blood pressure.

Combine with Maca for Male Fertility... Maca has long been known as a natural boost for libido and fertility. Scientists in Peru wanted to see what would happen if they combined Maca Root and Camu Camu Berry. They tested both on a stand-alone basis as well as together on male rats. Then parameters of sperm health were measured, they found that together the 2 South American Superfood worked synergistically in benefiting the male rat reproductive process. It cannot be said that Camu Camu and Maca will improve infertility in humans men, though it’s fascinating preliminary evidence of it apparently working in this animal study.

Camu Camu - How healthy could you be?

camu camu extract

Camu Camu is also shown as being anti-mutagenic, if you can prevent DNA mutations in your body, you will live longer, have fewer chronic diseases, and greatly reduce your chances of ever being diagnosed with a health problem.

One of the most impressive characteristics of Camu is its cognitive function quality, so if you have a problem in that area or if you would like to protect yourself from one, the Camu Berry is one of the things you should put on your investigation list.

Again, it isn't a total solution for specific health issues; but it can certainly be a healthful nutritional tool that can either reduce the progression or potentially protect you from ever having it.

So why not give Camu Camu a go, it's expensive for a reason, its nutrionally dense and a lot of effort has gone in to bringing it to you. But just a teaspoon in a smoothie makes a delicious, super healthy drink.

Camu Camu... It's not just Food Vitamin C

Camu camu is estimated to contain up to 3 grams of vitamin C per 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of fruit. However, due to its strong sour taste, it’s rarely eaten fresh and typically sold in powder form. Since the powder has had all water removed, it contains more vitamin C per gram compared to the fresh berries. According to product nutrition labels, camu camu powder can deliver up to 750% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI) of vitamin C per teaspoon (5 grams). Remember this is the Extract so we are going further here. Keep in mind that the level of vitamin C in camu camu products can vary depending on, for example, where the fruit was grown, Ancient Purity sourced this Camu Camu extract from its native Peru, the Berries grown organically.

Camu Camu has impressive antioxidant capacities and the extract just goes further, you will know that it is famous for its Vitamin C content, but other potent compounds like flavonoid antioxidants, including anthocyanins and ellagic acid. If you haven't read on this site 100 times already Antioxidants are substances that protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals. Excess free radicals in your body can lead to chronic health problems. The high antioxidant content of camu camu may particularly benefit those who smoke cigarettes, as smoking creates excessive amounts of free radicals, leading to oxidative stress.

In a 1-week study in 20 male smokers, those who drank 0.3 cups (70 ml) of camu camu juice containing 1,050 mg of vitamin C daily had significantly lowered oxidative stress and inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein (CRP).  What’s more, there were no changes in these markers in the placebo group who received a vitamin C tablet. This indicates that the combination of other antioxidants from the camu camu berries had more powerful antioxidant effects than vitamin C alone.

Camu Camu

Camu Camu... Beauty Product ingredient.

Camu Camu as an ingredient is becoming increasingly popular in topical anti-ageing treatments for wrinkles and blemishes. There is now a Camu Camu sleeping mask and brightening serum which gets rave reviews, as well as a famous brand, that uses Camu Camu in its body lotion. Ancient Purity wouldn't recommend anything from the beauty industry, as it adds junk to their products. It is so much better and healthier to get the clean and natural ingredients from us to easily make your own pure skin beauty product. There is research on using topical Vitamin C in dermatology for the treatment of hyperpigmentation - e.g. “brightening” or “whitening” the skin and acne scars. The high amounts of Vitamin C and Flavonoids in Camu Camu Extract deliver a dose of antioxidant protection against ageing UV. It also might help protecting the skin against pollution’s negative impacts and even pollen that can lead to itchy, inflamed and dry skin, according to recent research.

Camu Camu… Closing Thoughts

So there we go, another one of the 3 Kings of Vitamin C (the others are Acerola & Kakadu). Camu Camu is a shrub growing in flooded or swampy areas of South America’s Amazon rain forests. You can find the fruit in Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Venezuela. Both fruit and leaves are used as a medicine. This Amazonian fruit is used to combat viral infections including common cold, eye issues including cataracts, hardening of the arteries, chronic tiredness, weakness, boost the immune system, support healthy gums and numerous other conditions. Camu Camu fruit as well as the extract is packed with nutrients such as Vitamin C, fatty acids, and Beta-Carotene.

Some of the main evidence-based health benefits include: contains powerful antioxidants (Antioxidants protect your cells from harm caused by free radicals), fights inflammatory conditions, antimicrobial properties, promotes healthy weight, might improve blood sugar levels, helps to decrease high blood pressure and the fruit is rich in Vitamin C. The flavour of Camu Camu Berry is very sour, so the most ideal way of adding it to your diet is through a powder extract or supplement. This makes perfect sense, as the water is removed, making Camu Camu’s concentration higher and prolonging shelf-life. Camu Camu fruit powder extract can be easily added to smoothies, salad dressings, oats, muesli and yogurts. A good tip is to add Camu Camu powder to food after cooking. This will prevent the loss of various nutrients due to the heat, particularly Vitamin C.
