Mountain Pepper Leaf & Old Man Saltbush Squid


• 4 squid/calamari hoods.

• 1 tablespoon Lemon Myrtle.

• 1 cup tempura flour.

• 20 ml macadamia oil.

• 50 grams Ghee.

• 1 teaspoon Ancient Purity Old Man Saltbush.

• 1 teaspoon Ancient Purity Mountain Pepper Leaf.

• 1 teaspoon chilli flakes.


• Prepare calamari hoods by washing and removing the ‘backbone” and skin.

• Cut the hoods into triangles or squares.

• In a bowl, mix the Lemon Myrtle and flour.

• Roll the calamari pieces through the flour mixture.

• Heat macadamia oil and Ghee in a wok.

• Add Ancient Purity Old Man Saltbush, Ancient Purity Mountain Pepper Leaf and chilli.

• Simmer for 30 seconds.

• Add the calamari, in batches, and cook until they curl.

• Using a slotted spoon, remove from the oil and drain on paper towel.

• Repeat with the remaining calamari.

Mountain Pepper & Lemon Myrtle Hummus

Hummus is a great source of fibre and protein, which may promote weight-loss. Surveys have shown that people who consume chickpeas or hummus regularly are less likely to be obese, plus have a lower BMI and smaller waist circumference.


• 1 can of drained chickpeas (reserve the liquid.)

• 2 tablespoon fresh Lemon Myrtle leaves finely chopped.

• 1 teaspoon Ancient Purity Mountain Pepper Leaf.

• 1 tablespoon sesame sauce.

• 1 tablespoon tahini.

• juice of 1 lemon.

• 2 tablespoons plain low-fat yogurt.

• 1 clove crushed garlic.

• ¼ teaspoon Ancient Purity Celtic Sea Salt.

• ½ teaspoon ordinary peppercorns.


• Process together until smooth and add some of the reserve liquid if mix is a little dry.

• Enjoy with plain biscuits or sticks of carrot and cucumber.
