Ancient Purity presents the choice of 2 incredible, natural and energy transporting Incense Bundles. The Himalayan Cedar presented is extracted from Cedar Tree wood. This supernatural tree grows abundantly in Himalayan Mountainous Regions of Nepal. Himalayan Cedar is commonly known as Dhup in Nepal. Dhup is basically used for incense either in people’s homes or in stupas (A dome-shaped structure erected as a Buddhist shrine) and temples. This type of Dhup is typical in Newar community and almost each and every Newar household is using it. This Himalayan Cedar is handmade and it is also called as Newa Dhup in Newari Culture. It's special and you will breath and feel that when you burn this amazing incense.

The Sandalwood Bundle is perhaps my favourite and it is mixed with some other spices & herbs. Also from Nepal this 100% natural Incense Rope was created with ancient herbs growing in the high Himalayas. The aromatic components are extracted from White and Red Sandalwood, Spikenard, Cinnamon, Saldup and Cloves. Like Cedar / Dhup it is used in Stupas, Temples and creative rooms for a peaceful, uplifting and chilled ambience. I said this is my favourite and I often burn this on my cooker hob, but please do it more safely than the way I do. Use a little cast iron pot, incense tray or oil burner.

The Newari People – An Introduction

Newari people are a mix of Indo-Aryan and Tibeto-Burman ethnicities. The Indo-Aryan groups came from India and simulated into the existing Tibeto-Burman culture. While the original language and culture survived, the Indo-Aryans brought over Hinduism and the social structure of the caste system. Newars are now the 6th largest ethnicity in Nepal. The Newar community can be found within the Kathmandu Valley. Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur are the main areas, however, in modern times they can be found throughout all of Nepal. Other large communities outside of Kathmandu include Palpa, Bandipur, and Butwal.

The Newari caste is famous for its artistry. When the caste system was in effect, they often had jobs in architecture, sculpting, painting, wood carving, pottery making, etc. To get a first-hand look, head to any of the three famous Durbar Squares. The one in Patan is my personal favourite. The details in their architecture are absolutely incredible. Newars are predominantly Hindu or Buddhist. Since the original cultures were a mix of Indo-Aryan (India is predominantly Hindu) and Tibeto-Burman (Tibet and Burma are both predominantly Buddhist), both religions survived.

Newari Rope Incense… Closing Thoughts

This Nepali incense rope is made up of wild herbs found in the high Himalayas. This is extracted from White and Red Sandalwood, Saldup, Spikenard, Cinnamon and Cloves. This is abundantly used in stupas, temples and drawing rooms for creating a relaxed, spiritual and tranquil ambience. This rope bundle contains 50 incense ropes, 11cm long each. Time of burning one rope is approximately 15 minutes. However, after the rope is burned out, the aroma will stay in your room for a while. The main smell of sandalwood is, unsurprisingly, woody, which comes from the fraction santalol. It's also earthy, but can also be described as creamy and rich. You'll pick up on balsamic, sweet and floral notes too. Cedar Wood has balsamic undertones and a camphor-like odour that reminds you of an heirloom hope chest or a good aftershave. This aromatic wood scent can call to mind pencil shavings and fine cigar boxes, both of which are often manufactured from cedar.

''To sit in solitude, to think in solitude with only the music of the stream and the cedar to break the flow of silence, there lies the value of wilderness.''  - John Muir

''The fragrance of sandalwood and rose bay does can travel far. But the fragrance of virtue rises to the heavens.'' - Buddha
