A: Yes, the preparation of our He Shou Wu follows Traditional Chinese Medicine. When the final He Shou Wu is created with black beans it is digested better and thus more effective. If the He Shou Wu is raw it can not only upset stomach, but produce a reduced effect.
Q: Could you describe the cooking process please?
A: To make the final He Shou Wu, the slices or pieces, are mixed well with black bean juice, moistened, put in a non-ferrous steaming container, sealed, steamed or stewed until the juice is exhausted and the medicine is brown. It's then taken out and dried. Polygonum Multiflorum uses 10kg of black beans per 100kg. The method for making black bean juice: take 10kg of black beans, add an appropriate amount of pure water, cook for about 4 hours, and boil about 15kg of juice; add black bean dregs and cook for 3 hours, boil 10kg of juice, and combine to obtain about 25kg of black bean juice. So it is quite a process, and labour intensive.
