Evening Primrose Oil (Omega 6 / GLA) Cold Pressed - 90 Caps

Be the first to review this product

Evening Primrose Oil is part of the fatty acids family whose role is as important as vitamins and minerals, but not all can be made in the body, and essential fatty acids have to be supplied in our food or by supplement. This magic oil can support healthy skin, hormones, nerves, hair, joints and more. We encourage that this is a supplement for men as much as women.

Ancient Purity's Evening Primrose Oil is Cold Pressed, produced to the highest quality, Each capsule provides 500mg of Omega 6. This yields incredible levels of ‘GLA’ at a minimum of 10%. Evening Primrose Oil is high in fatty acids, including the essential omega 6 linoleic acid and non-essential omega 6 gamma linolenic.
It is an essential supplement for women, however, because of this, it's often overlooked as to how good it is for men too. This beautiful, little, yellow wildflower native to North America, Europe, and parts of Asia is cultivated for its oil.
Used for centuries for its health and beauty effects (found in many beauty products today). It has so much more to offer.
Evening Primrose Oil is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid that has been used to treat everything, including female reproductive tissues, blood channels, the respiratory passages, and the nervous system.

Skin Health
More than 30 studies report the effectiveness of oral evening primrose oil supplements for relieving symptoms of eczema and dermatitis according to Adventist Healthcare. Evening primrose oil also may be effective for treating skin rashes and hives. InteliHealth notes the oil is widely used in Europe for treating psoriasis and eczema with the suggested adult dose 4 g to 8 g daily divided into two doses. InteliHealth recommends consulting a health care professional before giving evening primrose capsules to children but notes that studies with children have safely used 3g daily divided into two doses.

Anti-Inflammatory
Omega-6 fatty acids are essential fatty acids, meaning the body cannot produce them, and, therefore, you must obtain them by diet or supplements. The fatty acid contained in evening primrose, gamma-linolenic acid, is very hard to obtain through diet, according to physician Andrew Weil, who specializes in holistic medicine. While some omega-6 fatty acids promote inflammation, gamma-linolenic acid actually reduces inflammation and does not have the side effects associated with anti-inflammatory drugs. Some research indicates gamma-linolenic acid may be beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis patients according to Arthritis Today.

Blood Sugar
Evening primrose oil has been shown to reduce blood sugar in diabetic humans and animals, according to InteliHealth, but long-term effects on blood sugar levels have not been determined. Gamma-linolenic acid may relieve nerve pain and other symptoms associated with diabetes, a condition known as diabetic neuropathy. A study published in the January 1993 issue of "Diabetes Care" found that supplementing with gamma-linolenic acid improved parameters of mild diabetic neuropathy, including hot and cold thresholds, sensation, tendon reflexes and muscle strength.

Healthy Hair & Support
Studies have indicated that using Evening Primrose Oil topically might help with hair loss. One study, by the University of Maryland, which gave patients who’d experienced significant hair loss primrose oil to take for seven months, found that the patients had significant hair regrowth by the end. “To get even more benefit, mix evening primrose oil with rosemary essential oil, which has also shown to help with hair loss and increase hair thickness,” says van Uitert. “Combine several drops of each oil with coconut oil and apply to the area of concern daily.” The Ancient Purity  EPO soft gels are big, easy to break open containing a good amount to mix into your hair.

Fatty Acids
Evening Primrose Oil is high in ‘Omega 6’ fatty acids including linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) Many women take evening primrose oil for relieving unpleasant symptoms of menopause and premenstrual syndrome, including breast pain related to the menstrual cycle. Omega 6 fatty acids have been found to be beneficial in premenstrual syndrome and many women choose to supplement with Evening Primrose Oil around the time of their period or during the menopause

Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA): Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) is essential for the production of certain hormones called prostaglandins, which regulate many body functions such as blood pressure, support of skin health, oxygen metabolism, cell membrane integrity and the reproductive cycle. Although the body can produce GLA directly from linoleic acid, sometimes the conversion is not very efficient, so a supplement might be useful. GLA performs a variety of functions, including support of skin health, oxygen metabolism and cell membrane integrity. Each capsule yields 500mg of Evening Primrose Oil thus containing 10% GLA.

Fatty Acid Metabolism& Prostaglandins: Linoleic acid is first metabolised to GLA and then to di-homo-gamma-linolenic acid (DHLA), a precursor of the series one prostaglandins, e.g. prostaglandin E1, (PGE1). DHLA is further metabolised to arachidonic acid, a precursor of the series two prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are highly reactive, short-lived substances with a diverse range of actions, their main effect being on the cardiovascular system and the smooth muscle.

Prostaglandins play a major role in the vascular and immune systems. Many women choose to supplement with Evening Primrose Oil around the time of their period or during the menopause. Fatty acids are as important nutrients like vitamins and minerals, but not all can be made in the body, and essential fatty acids have to be supplied in our food. Human breast milk is one of the richest natural sources of GLA. Linoleic acid can be found in many oils, including safflower, hemp, grape and sunflower.
