The Potent Ingredients – A Closer Look

Holy Thorn… this mysterious wonderful ancient tree is associated with legends about Joseph of Arimathea and the arrival of Christianity in Britain, and has appeared in written texts since the medieval period. The Glastonbury Thorn is a form of the common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) found in the area around Glastonbury, Somerset. It will often flower twice in the same year, an initial flush of flowers around Christmas, followed by the main flowering later in the spring. For this reason it is sometimes known as Biflora. The Mistletoe growing on this old tree is used in our healing cream.

Chalice Well Water…the legend goes that the Chalice Well is assumed to have sprung from the ground at the position where the chalice (the Holy Grail), that Jesus used to drink from at the Last Supper and in which some drops of His blood were caught during the Crucifixion was placed. The well itself is believed to have been constructed by the Druids, and that the water the gushes from it, has a reddish colour and tastes like iron. It has been claimed to have magical powers.

Mistletoe… This parasitic plant’s roots reached back to pre-Christian, Greek, and Roman eras. It may be hung and some kisses may already be checked off your list but there are year-round perks to this holiday staple. The decorative greenery, once reserved for doorways and dropping hints for your crush, actually contains a potent extract that, when applied topically, helps keep skin soft and supple. The tiny red berries that grow on Mistletoe’s winter version are purely aesthetic. The true power is in the stems and leaves. The liquid extract obtained from these parts has been used throughout Europe for hundreds of years as an herbal remedy to treat everything from sleeplessness to delirium. But they also boiled Mistletoe making a homemade toner to aid heal damaged skin, regenerate skin cells, and treat acne. It was also blended into a homemade cream to unclog pores.

Copaiba Milk…makes your skin happy? Copaiba Milk contains good amounts of beta-caryophyllene, a molecule that interacts with cannabinoid receptors in your skin. This causes skin cells to produce beta-endorphin, one of the happiness hormones. Beta-caryophyllene works also a strong anti-inflammatory agent and Copaiba is one of the safest liquids to use on the skin. It might be very helpful in healing, soothing irritation and alleviating chronic skin issues.

Shea Butter… is extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree. It is solid at warm temperatures and has an off-white or ivory colour. Shea trees are native to West Africa, and most Shea Butter still comes from that continent. Shea Butter is absolutely free from chemical substances known to dry out skin, and it does not clog pores. It’s appropriate for nearly any skin type. The skin benefits provided by Shea Butter are truly extensive. You can read more here: Shea Butter for Your Face: Benefits and Uses

Jojoba Oil… the jojoba plant is a hearty, perennial plant that grows in North America. The plant produces a nut with numerous healing properties. Many people use jojoba oil as part of their skin care routine. And there are good reasons for that. There’s plenty of scientific evidence supporting the use of pure jojoba oil as a remedy for acne, dry skin, and a wide range of other skin issues.

Sunflower Oil…yes!  Even the well-known sunflower oil has some great benefits for your skin. The vitamin E in sunflower oil has antioxidants that help with premature ageing and wrinkles, keeping your skin looking young and fresh. Sunflower oil also contains linoleic acid, which helps your skin retain moisture so it becomes less dry. Reinforcing this natural moisture barrier is especially helpful for those with eczema or otherwise dry skin. In addition, linoleic acid helps to protect the face from bacteria and germs.
